Case Studies

While overseeing public relations, social media, marketing and branded content for Virginia Distillery Co., I helped launch the company's new distillery, visitors center, tasting room and whisky museum. Along with VDC's Brand Director, I increased brand awareness and loyalty via targeted marketing-- online content, social media, newsletters, email marketing, white papers and website content. I even tried my hand at creating and writing museum panels for VDC’s state-of-the-art whisky museum which was a fun and exciting way to use my MFA in Creative Writing. As part of a team, I help to elevate VDC's presence within the global spirits world by working with key media to secure notable coverage in publications such as Saveur, Wine Enthusiast, BEVNET and The Washington Post.

With the Virginia Wine Marketing Office I developed and executed an extensive brand awareness, media and influencer outreach, events and social media campaign as part of March Wine and Dine Month. As a content writer and editor with Crock-Pot® brand slow cookers I worked as part of a team to successfully launch the company's online meal delivery kit Crock-Pot®Cuisine by creating and editing branded web content. I’ve created content for Sur La Table, Better Homes & Gardens Special Interest Publications, Proctor & Gamble, Williams and Sonoma, Publix and Hamilton Beach, to name a few.

I have an M.F.A. in Creative Writing and have twice served as a Judge for the James Beard Awards (Wine and Spirits category). I have 16+ years experience as a writer with a special focus in food, drink, travel and recipes. I have published two cookbooks with Ten Speed Press/Penguin Random House and was a food columnist for The Richmond Times Dispatch newspaper.

I’m a former co-host of the TLC program Homemade Simple and the Emmy nominated “Real Virginia”, and I have appeared on various podcasts, radio programs, television shows as well as performed countless cooking demonstrations at food and wine events, conferences and festivals.

I'm highly skilled at content marketing, digital marketing, webpage content, blogging, corporate communications (product descriptions, email marketing, B2B, newsletters, white papers, media announcements, speech writing, script writing) branded content, web marketing, SEO, Google Analytics, photography, videography, public speaking, cooking demonstrations, hosting and moderating.
